India is said to be a great country. How great, is what I have been thinking for quite some time. What makes me say this? Open the papers of the day, and you'll get an idea.
There's no respect left for women in India. Each day is nothing short of a war for them.
Can you let your mothers, your sisters, your daughters out of the house with complete peace of mind? Not in India at least. Please note that whatever I'm saying, this is only a worst case scenario. Read on if you can.
Here's what a female has to face in the dark India.
BIRTH
Even before she's born, the doctor is contacted, not for pre-natal care, but to know the gender. If it's a boy- 'Mubarak ho! Ladka hua hai!'. If it's a girl, either the poor thing's life is ended then and there, which is a boon, in a way, or she's is allowed to live, to face a life of torment.
GROWING YEARS
Even as young girl, she isn't safe. Sexual predators, the ones we call 'havas ke pujari' have been known to take away the innocence of kids as young as a 2-year old baby. In the past month, there have been at least 3 reports of rape each day. My blood boils everytime I read these.
WHEN SHE'S A WOMAN
The girl has grown up. She's a woman now. Her boyfriend sexually exploits her, clicks her nude pics, posts them on the net, then leaves her. She gets married. Her husband gets drunk, beats her every night. He cheats on her. But no matter. But if she even talks to a male friend, all hell breaks loose. She has to constantly face dowry demands, but is asked to stay quiet. 'Family ki izzat ka sawaal hai bhai!'
OLD AGE
She's shifted to an old age home by her son. Who has time for an aging mother, right?
What happened of Scarlett Keeling? Remember her? She was the teenager raped and murdered by a lechereous bastard in Goa. Remember the Surat gangrape cases? These stories stay as media fodder for a couple of weeks, then 'poof', otherwise TRP will plunge. Who can take the risk right?
Police don't want to get involved if the criminal is someone high profile. The victim is hushed up. Sometimes policemen themselves are the rapist. Remember the Patan PTC gangrape case. Who were the culprits? Teachers. The ones we call 'gurus'.
Why is it that Indian men are so not in control of their hormones? Is it in the upbringing? I guess I don't want to be an Indian in that case.
Women! Wake up! Fight back! Someone whistles at you, slap the bastard! Guys like us also exist to help if situation arises. We need a safer India. And we need your help in doing so.
